Your Car Insurance and Suspended Driver’s License When it comes to driver’s license suspension, you can expect that your car insurance rates to increase. Before your license suspension is lifted, you will need to prove that you have a car insurance. There are many things that can cause you insurance cost to increase such as being convicted of a DUI (driving under the influence) or DWI (driving while intoxicated), car accidents or getting pulled for over speeding. There are also many things that may cause the suspension of a driver’s license, such as car misuse, involvement in hit-and-run accident or any accident that the driver is proven at fault and repeated disregard of DUI or DWI rules. Driver’s license suspension may seem superficial and many people don’t worry too much about it, but not until they reach a certain point of experiencing it themselves, and later on realize how much it affects their lives. Well obviously you won’t be able to drive to work, drive your kids to school, and not being able to visit your family and friends anytime you choose to do so, without the hassle of commuting. There are less obvious reasons that many people don’t realize at first when their driver’s license has been suspended, such as restrictions in running errands, shopping, attending religious activities, attending doctor’s appointment, cannot fully assist someone who need assistance like having to bring someone to the hospital because of an emergency, or bringing your pet to a veterinarian as needed. Apart from not being to legally drive your own car, your family and friends instantly becomes responsible for driving you around, and you being a burden on their shoulders. Public transportation might be an option for you, but if you live in a small town or a place without a significant enough transportation system, you will really need to rely on your family and friends for driving you around. You are just putting yourself at greater risks if you try to drive your car with a suspended license. If you are caught driving with your driver’s license suspended, your suspension will be lengthened, you may lose your license permanently, or worse scenario, even go to jail. You might think your ordeal ends after your driver’s license suspension has been reinstated, but actually, it is just the beginning. After the reinstatement, once you consult your car insurance company for some time, you may notice a significant increase in your car insurance rates, and it may be difficult for you finding a lower insurance rate with another provider. Your history of having a suspended license will be shown on the driving history, and it will definitely affect your car insurance rate for years.
